As I begin my 14th year as your
Pastor, I take this time to thank
you for your friendship,
faithfulness, humor, flexibility
and love of the Lord! It has been
a great journey that we have
shared as the Body of Christ.
Most specifically, I commend your leadership, the Administrative
Board for their diligence, discernment and faith as we enter these
trying and difficult economic times. They have kept the spirit of hope,
opportunity and trust alive and have been an example of embracing
God’s promises, always!
With this said, I commend their difficult decision to begin paying our
“shared ministry” to the United Methodist Church, based on our month
to month income. Simply put our “shared ministry” is the amount every
United Methodist Church in the world pays toward World Service and
Benevolence Ministries, retired clergy support and administrative
costs in training, equipping and appointing our clergy in supporting
the local church.
For the past 12 years we have paid 100% of our obligation and have
done the same for the first 5 months of 2008. Our 2008 “shared
ministry” amount is $3,022.25/month. This month we are only able to
forward $600.00 and will base our future payments on our month to
month giving.

With this reality please allow me a few reflections:

    1. As we all attempt to be faithful during these obviously financially
trying times, please remember that God knows our hearts and what is
most important is our love, grace and acceptance we have toward
each other as the Church of Jesus Christ. In other words, if your
pledge that you made in good faith, is not able to be met, remember
God just wants our best and not to feel guilty or coerced. In these
times we need each other more than ever so please come and find
strength in God as we worship together.
    2. I feel that with every challenge comes an equal or greater
opportunity. Our present reality forces us to think outside the box and
look for creative and effective stewardship ideas. I have seen it
happening already. Let’s get excited about that!
    3. This is a test of our faith and strength as a community. When the
sun is shining and the blessings are falling upon us it is not difficult to
be unified and together, but when the rains come and storms
challenge our resolve, it is then we are counted as faithful…………..I
believe God will find us so……

No Limits!
