By 1940, 269 women were church members and 112 were members of a
missionary society.

In the fall of 1940, the National Methodist Church had restructured all women's into
an all-inclusive Woman's Society of Christian Service, (W.S.C.S.).  Within this large
unit were to be various smaller guilds which would meet monthly while the parent
group  met quarterly.

This new structure and purpose was tested quickly when after
Pearl Harbor, the women added new tasks to their current
concerns.

The U.S.O. needed help.  Letters were written to servicemen
and any other need that could be supplied was taken on
through fund-raising.
When the Fulton Council of Churchwomen (later known as Church Women United)
was organized in 1949, our W.S.C.S. voted to join.

In September of 1958, the guilds were disbanded.  They decided to meet instead as
circles.  Today, although no circles meet, the women of the First United Methodist
Church serve in every area of the church: as ushers lay readers, communion
servers and even as pastors! The work of the women has now become the work of
the church.
A church newspaper, "The Chimes," was born in April of 1948.
The Chimes is printed and mailed out every month to members
and interested persons.  It attempts to keep all informed on what
is happening within the church, outside the church, within the
community and the needs and important issues in society.
The church library has all the historical records of the church
including those items saved from the church fire.  In addition,
the library holds many books and taped sermons which any
person may borrow.
Today, The First United Methodist Church of Fulton remains committed to the
worship of God through teaching Jesus Christ, our Lord, to all, and nurturing and
supporting each other in the church and in the world.
We show our faith in our music through the Chancel Choir for adults and a Youth
Choir.
We show our faith in our education through Sunday School
classes for pre-school through adult, and nursery care during
classes.

We show our faith in our Fellowship events and dinners.
We show our faith in our fund-raising for various church
projects, in our shut-in ministry through visits and Radio
Ministry, through our Small Groups Ministries, and through the
work of dedicated pastors and disciples, the People of the
Fulton First United Methodist Church.
